The Recognition Edition

June 2025 Newsletter

Did you know that...

A barrier to academic and professional mobility is qualification recognition?

Global academic mobility is rising—but recognition of degrees remains an obstacle for many, risking reduced diversity in higher education. Issues like perceived low institutional quality or unfamiliar degree structures slow progress. To tackle this, UNESCO adopted the Global Convention on Recognition of Qualifications Concerning Higher Education in 2019, aiming to boost international higher education cooperation and mobility (UNESCO, 2019). To date, 38 states have ratified the convention. ACEEU supports diversification and transparency in higher education through clear quality standards - such as staff profile, education, and research - rooted in universities’ Third Mission, with engaged and entrepreneurial university accreditation helping unlock global recognition.

Projects

ACEEU’s European Projects Unit advances academic mobility and recognition by partnering across countries and sectors to improve skills, quality, and practices within higher education.
