University Malaysia Kelantan receives ACEEU's Entrepreneurial University Accreditation

At the Accreditation Council for Entrepreneurial and Engaged Universities (ACEEU), we are happy to announce that the Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) has just been awarded ACEEU Entrepreneurial University accreditation. The Universiti Malaysia Kelantan is the first public institution in Malaysia to achieve ACEEU accreditation. Universiti Malaysia Kelantan is a public university in Malaysia, founded in 2006. UMK has a unique history of having entrepreneurship embedded in its mission since its foundation. When the creation of UMK was approved, it was determined that the curriculum philosophy at UMK should be entrepreneurship and enterprise education in all disciplines. Thus, the taglines of "Entrepreneurship is Our Thrust" and "Entrepreneurial University" are widely used to promote the philosophy of UMK.

"Energizing an entrepreneurial culture within the university is essential for students’ mindset and skill growth. As an entrepreneurial university, UMK is committed to students’ development by providing a conducive learning environment and entrepreneurial support elements led by resourceful leaders. ACEEU Accreditation recognition has put UMK on the world map in terms of entrepreneurship and it goes to show the university has achieved entrepreneurial standards and commitment to excellence" - Says Prof. Dr. Nik Maheran Binti Nuk Muhammad, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic & International (Exercising The Function of Vice-Chancellor)

To receive this accreditation, the Universiti Malaysia Kelantan succeeded in presenting evidence of their achievements in the 15 standards of ACEEU accreditation for entrepreneurship.

"It is amazing to see a university so committed to entrepreneurship such as Universiti Malaysia Kelantan. One of the most interesting parts of the review was seeing so many success stories if students, alumni, and stakeholders influenced by UMK. On behalf of the entire Council I congratulate Universiti Malaysia Kelantan for being accredited both as an Entrepreneurial University.” - says Lina Landinez, Chair of the Accreditation Committee responsible for UMK`s accreditation.

The university went through a four-phase process, including a self-evaluation and peer visit, before the Accreditation Council awarded UMK the Entrepreneurial university status. The university was reviewed by Paul Coyle, Saran Kaur Gil, and Abdul Jalil bin Ghazali during the Peer Review Visit, and the accreditation was conducted by Lina Landinez, Deresh Ramjugernath, and Abdelraheem Abual Basal, who took part as the Accreditation Committee.

“At ACEEU, we want to promote a more transformative approach to entrepreneurship and engagement in higher education. We encourage universities to go beyond merely adding an entrepreneurship centre, an industry liaison office, or changing the vision statement. UMK is making an important contribution by having entrepreneurship in its culture, the mindsets, the values, and the overall DNA.” says Professor Thorsten Kliewe, Chair of the ACEEU Council.
