Gdańsk University of Technology receives ACEEU accreditation as Engaged University

The Accreditation Council for Entrepreneurial and Engaged Universities (ACEEU) has awarded the Gdańsk University of Technology in Poland, accreditation as an Engaged University. The University is the first university of technology to achieve ACEEU accreditation on engagement, showing the institution's impressive commitment to contributing to social and economic well-being.

“The ACEEU accreditation received by the Gdańsk University of Technology is particularly important to us because the Third Mission of the university is as important to us as research and education. Gdańsk Tech can be proud of this distinction as one of three universities in Poland and a dozen in the world” - said Prof. Dariusz Mikielewicz, vice-rector for organisation and development.

The six evaluators who contributed to the accreditation of the Gdańsk University of Technology agreed that the university stands out for its clearly defined commitment to engagement in terms of its internal support structures and third mission activities. The internal support structures are well-staffed and well-funded and work cohesively with each other, integrating and complementing the services offered. Gdańsk Tech strives to be an engaged university with a focus on the environment and undertakes initiatives for and in cooperation with various institutions and external organisations.

The Gdańsk University of Technology has achieved international accreditations, including IEP, IQA-CEEMAN, AMBA, SAS and EMOS. The European Commission has prolonged the right to use the prestigious ‘HR Excellence in Research’ logo, which was first given in 2019. It is a symbol of quality assuring the highest standards of research and employment of the leading staff at the university. ACEEU accreditation now puts the university in the top world universities for the development of engagement, showcasing the excellence of the university in its third mission efforts.

“Having visited the Gdańsk University of Technology, it is clear that the university is putting a stronger emphasis on the so-called third mission, next to education and research, to make the institution an engine for societal and economic development and a key actor in the region” - says Thorsten Kliewe, Chair of the Peer Review Team.

To receive this accreditation, the Gdańsk University of Technology succeeded in presenting evidence of their achievements in the 15 standards of ACEEU accreditation for engagement. The university went through a four-phase process, including a self-evaluation and peer review visit, before the Accreditation Council awarded the Engaged University status. The university was reviewed by Prof. Dr Thorsten Kliewe, Prof. Sabina Ratajczak, and Dr Joanne Zhang during the Peer Review Visit, and the accreditation was conducted by Dr Lina Landinez, Dr Cameron McCoy and Dr Rene Garrido, who took part as the Accreditation Committee.
