Simon Fraser University and University of Porto join the pilot phase

Today, ACEEU Chair Thorsten Kliewe announced that Simon Fraser University (Canada) and the University of Porto (Portugal) will enter the ACEEU pilot phase in addition to the 12 before selected institutions. Simon Fraser University, SFU, will be the third institution in Northern America, thus reducing the region’s current underrepresentation among the ACEEU pilot institutions. The University of Porto, short UPorto, will be the first Southern European university among the pilots.

Dr. Kliewe, Chair of the Council, explained the decision by referring to the special profile of the two institutions. “We are very happy that SFU and UPorto are joining ACEEU’s pilot phase as they will help us to better understand the education (eco)systems in Northern America and Southern Europe, two major regions in the education landscape. Another factor positively affecting the decision was that both institutions are internally highly regarded universities in the field of entrepreneurship and engagement. We see their interest in ACEEU accreditation as a clear sign in the third mission of institutions and the trust in ACEEU. Ultimately, getting such high profile institutions on board will also benefit all future applicants as it raises ACEEU’s profile and the value of the accreditation.”

SFU and UPorto join the current set of twelve pilots, consisting of:

  • The University of Adelaide, Australia
  • University of Wollongong, Australia
  • University of Johannesburg, South Africa
  • Qatar University, Qatar
  • Coventry University, UK
  • Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden
  • University of Turku, Finland
  • University of Tartu, Estonia
  • University of Warsaw, Poland
  • Lehigh University, USA
