How can we strengthen the societal impact of research in the life sciences? And what can universities and researchers do to make scientific knowledge more socially engaged, inclusive, and responsive to societal needs?
The BETTER Life Project addresses these questions and promotes the use of a Socially Engaged Research (SER) Framework, Tools, and training programs that help life sciences higher education institutions connect research with real societal challenges, empowering early-career researchers, educators, and institutions to work hand in hand with communities, policymakers, and citizens to meet societal needs.
The project is implemented by a consortium of nine partners from the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Romania, and Serbia, building on regional experiences and stakeholder collaborations to provide a systemic approach for embedding SER in higher education and research ecosystems.
The ACEEU’s Global Forum and Triple E Awards offered the BETTER Life team an opportunity to engage with higher education stakeholders and share the project objectives. With 153 participants from 42 countries, including a strong presence of university administrators, educators, and innovation experts, the forum provided indeed a valuable opportunity to discuss how socially engaged research can drive meaningful change, bridge science and society, and help shape a better life for all.
