The RISE UP Project has reached a major milestone with the successful completion of its Literature Review and expert consultation activities.
Through extensive desk research and collaboration among consortium partners, the Literature Review identified key skill domains that foster climate-adaptive mindsets. The pre-determined areas include climate resilience, eco-psychology, crisis management, eco-grief and eco-guilt, positive psychology, creative and therapeutic arts, mindful living, cognitive-behavioural strategies, and climate storytelling. The findings highlight the psychological, behavioural, and narrative competencies that necessitate climate resilience and provide a foundation for the next project stages.
Building on these insights, the consortium conducted field research by engaging with climate resilience experts and higher education professionals across Europe. The consultations explored perceptions of the GreenComp Framework, the impact of climate anxiety on young adults, and the integration of sustainability competences in higher education.
The results reveal varying levels of climate awareness, limited use of psychosocial and creative pedagogies, and a pressing need for education that promotes resilience, responsibility, and emotional adaptability. Once more, it became clear that higher education institutions must move beyond knowledge transmission to embody sustainability across all possible domains.
The outcomes of the literature review and the field research will guide the project’s next phase and directly inform the development of the Adapted GreenComp Framework for Young Adults.
