What happens when lecturers are given the tools to make students active participants in assessment? PeerCollab’s training sessions across Europe are showing how Peer Assessment can move beyond theory and become a powerful way to support collaboration, reflection, and student ownership in learning processes.
As part of the PeerCollab project, lecturers from higher education institutions in Spain, Italy, Poland, and Belgium took part in training sessions designed to support the use of Peer Assessment in teaching and learning. The sessions introduced them to the project’s handbook, educational materials, and practical tools for applying peer assessment in ways that are structured, inclusive, and aligned with learning outcomes.
The trainings were organised to help lecturers better understand how Peer Assessment can support student engagement, responsibility, reflection, and active learning in higher education, encouraging students to give and receive feedback, think critically and take greater ownership of their learning process.
Preliminary feedback from the trainings showed already the impact of the training sessions with lecturer valuing valued the practical nature of the sessions, which helps them to connect peer assessment with real classroom practice.
ACEEU contributed to this milestone by producing a comprehensive methodological evaluation. By assessing the quality of the educational materials, the training activities, and the feedback from participating lecturers, ACEEU guides the consortium in understanding how well the sessions are working in practice.
The PeerCollab training marks an important step in bringing peer assessment from theory into practice across higher education, supporting both lecturers and students in making assessment more collaborative and meaningful.
