MECHATON UA 2025 Showcases Youth Innovation for Sustainable Ukrainian Communities

On 16–17 July 2025, the Erasmus+ UNICOM project brought together students, young innovators, academics, and community representatives for MECHATON UA 2025, a two-day hybrid marathon of innovative solutions dedicated to supporting the sustainable development of Ukrainian communities. The event was organised by Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics in cooperation with Sumy National Agrarian University, the event engaged 10 student teams and more than 50 participants from across Ukraine.

MECHATON UA 2025 challenged participants to develop practical solutions addressing real community needs at the intersection of technology, sustainability, security, inclusion, agriculture, and tourism. Working in multidisciplinary teams and guided by experts from academia, industry, and local communities, participants transformed innovative ideas into practical proposals for sustainable community development. The competition concluded with the "GreenMindLab" team from Sumy National Agrarian University taking first place on their project, "Development of an Information Subsystem for Recording Environmental Protection Measures." Second place was awarded to the "Vitryla" team from Vinnytsya National Pirogov Memorial Medical University for developing "Meteobot," a chatbot designed to support communities through weather-related information and services.

As the project continues, ACEEU plays a continuous role in evaluation of project activities to ensure they deliver meaningful impact. Through activities such as MECHATON UA 2025, the UNICOM project promotes entrepreneurial thinking, interdisciplinary cooperation, and community engagement, demonstrating how universities can become active contributors to regional innovation and sustainable development.

MECHATON UA 2025 represents another important milestone in the UNICOM project, highlighting the creativity, resilience, and potential of young people to address societal challenges. By connecting students with real-world issues and fostering collaboration across sectors, the initiative continues to strengthen the role of universities as drivers of innovation and sustainable community development.

Stay tuned for more updates.
