ACEEU has successfully supported the implementation of the first ANGIE Hybrid Course Pilot, which took place on 15 January 2026, marking an important milestone in the ANGIE project’s mission to strengthen sustainability-oriented teaching and learning across European higher education. The theme of the pilot was Waste Management and Environment
As lead partner for piloting and dissemination in the ANGIE Project, ACEEU helped bring together students, academics, and sustainability experts for an engaging learning experience focused on practical solutions for Europe’s green transition.
The pilot featured three expert-led sessions addressing key challenges in sustainable waste systems.
The event opened with Manuel González Sánchez from the University of Malaga, who explained the principles of waste centralisation procedures, including how circular economy approaches, logistics optimisation, and regulatory frameworks can improve resource recovery while reducing environmental impacts.
The focus then shifted to plastic waste management, where Inês Ascenso Pires from the University of Lisbon talked about strategies for reducing plastic pollution and strengthening circular material flows.
Closing the pilot, Ioan Hoșu from Babeș-Bolyai University discussed online research in environmental issues, including how digital platforms, data-driven tools, and real-time monitoring technologies are transforming environmental research and decision-making.
As ANGIE continues rolling out its course pilots, ACEEU remains committed to strengthening capacity building, promoting innovative teaching formats, and supporting collaboration between higher education and the WATERIC sectors to drive meaningful environmental impact.
