ACEEU led the development and installation of a “free to use” eLearning Platform to strengthen higher education in Yemen.
To ensure the right platform was chosen, the selection process began with a review of 14 eLearning platforms, examining factors such as scalability, accessibility, technical requirements, and community support. From this review, three platforms were shortlisted: Moodle, Open edX, and ILIAS.
A subsequent survey of 51 stakeholders, including academics, administrative, and IT support staff across the eight Yemeni universities, revealed a clear preference for Moodle. The stakeholders appreciated it for its open-source nature, compatibility with local IT infrastructure, and strong global support community.
Based on this feedback, ACEEU used Moodle and installed eight fully customized YHELD elearning platforms, each hosted on ACEEU’s server and adapted to reflect the identity of the individual universities. From logos and design elements to administrator access and tailored configurations, every detail was managed to ensure that universities could take ownership of their platforms from day one.
To support long-term uptake and use, ACEEU also developed the YHELD Moodle Manual to guide administrators and staff on how to operate and use the platforms confidently.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to work with our YHELD partners to build a resilient, globally engaged higher education system in Yemen.
